Sustainable Neighbourhoods Action Group

Wisdom is the principle thing, therefor get wisdom; And with all thy getting, get understanding; Exalt her and she shall promote thee; She shall bring thee to honour when thou dost embrace her; She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace; A crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.

SNAG  has received feedback from community and voluntary groups that they are finding it hard to find affordable accommodation and/or venues from which to operate their activities.  In some cases, groups have been evicted from property they and their volunteers have spent months renovating for use by the community.

SNAG and EN4M wish to hold a series of meetings with key organisations (community groups, the council, landlords and the media) across the city in order to put in place a mechanism or strategy whereby community groups can be matched to disused, vacant and blighted buildings.  The aim is to access these disused spaces at an affordable rent in return for refurbishment and general upkeep of the property and payment of utilities etc. This would be over an agreed time period to provide security to the community groups involved. This may be the perfect solution to a problem that may well not be addressed as fluently as possible during this economic downturn.

If you need space for meetings, offices or events, or if you own disused space and would like to benefit from renting to community groups, please get in touch.
